A Question About Bible Doctrine: Stoning your kids

How would you answer this Question?

Question: Subject: male and female roles in a relationship / stoning your kids

Hey John!

i have two questions. firstly, what does the bible say about the male and female role in a relationship? i know that it says for the male to love his wife like the church and for the woman to obey the man, but does this imply that the man is the leader of the relationship??

and also, a friend of mine told me that the 'original bible' gave instructions on how to stone your kids if they disobeyed their parents. is that true? and is it also true that there is an original bible which has since been translated and has had stuff left out which doesn't apply to modern society's way of living?

Thanks in advance =]

Here at my blog, I'm going to post two separate entries for these two questions. Both of them could spark some interesting discussions I think. As always I sincerely invite your views...

This one is on Stoning your kids.

My reply:

Hi Mykelle,,

There is no "original Bible" today. There are NO original manuscripts of the Bible in existence as far as anyone knows. There have always been rumors that the Vatican has "the original Bible" locked away in their vaults beneath Vatican City but there is NO evidence that that is true.

The Bible consists of 66 separate books. The 66 were accumulated from arguably thousands of manuscripts and books. Over the years the Jewish elders determined which of these books (and which versions of them) they would accept as canonical (authorized) and which they would reject. The followers of Emperor Constantine generally accepted the Jewish Cannon and determined which writings to include in the New Testament, and again in which manuscript forms etc. Many books, the Gospel of Mary, the Books of Enoch, The Gospel of Judas Iscariot, the Gospel of Philip etc were rejected by the Catholic Church and hence are not contained in modern Bibles.

In 1611 what was until recently accepted as THE definitive translation of the Bible into English was produced: the Authorized or King James Version of the Holy Bible. For most of literate Western history the Authorized King James Version of the Bible has been THE Bible. It is a very good translation, but not perfect, of the oldest, most commonly and most widely accepted and authorized manuscripts (known as the Received Texts -- Textus Receptus) known.

In the 1970s and 1980's new translations and paraphrases of the Bible (like the New International Version or NIV, the New King James Version and so on) were produced, largely based on the work of two Atheists named Westcott and Hort. These are fundamentally different works and they undermine traditional Christian doctrine and belief (for many examples see my: http://allfaith.com/Religions/Christianity/kingjames.html. The NIV is now the "Bible of Choice" for the majority of mislead English speaking Christians. As a result Christianity is now in serious decline (compare Rev. 3:15-20).

In the years before Jesus' time stoning was a method of execution that was not that uncommon. For instance:

Numbers 15:32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

As explained above [http://johnofallfaith.multiply.com/journal/item/1152 on my blogs], these were very different times than those in which we live, at least in our culture (Islam continues such practices). Neither Judaism nor modern Christianity practice such things any more (thank God!).

People who make these sorts of accusations are hoping to discredit modern Christianity and Judaism based on practices engaged in 2000 plus years ago. It was a very different world then.

The essential point of all such issues, in my opinion, can be settled in the following verses:

I John 2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

If the Spirit of God dwells within you, study the Scriptures, learn from them, be inspired by them, but do not worship them... Worship ONLY God Who is revealed within your heart and mind.

And again:

Micah 6:6 Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?
7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Jesus confirms this view:

Matthew 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Love God and your fellow humans and God will accept you and lead you ever onward through the fog.
