Dear John,
With the announcement this past week that Iran is now enriching uranium to 20% (the minimum standard for nuclear weaponry...compared to 3-5% enrichment for peaceful purposes) the clouds of war are gathering and growing darker than ever. The director of the Atomic Nuclear Agency of Israel told me that Iran is "just a screwdriver away" from completing their work on nuclear weapons. Unless Iran is stopped they will certainly pass the point of no return this year.
The world has utterly failed to deal with this grave threat. Diplomacy and "engagement" have been the refuge of people who don't want to face the reality and deal with the danger that Iran's nuclear program poses not just to Israel but to the world.
By April 1st I believe all peaceful avenues will be exhausted. It will be obvious at that point that Israel will have to do the job that no one else has been willing to do. The Iranian government, clinging to power after last year's stolen election will not yield--they cannot afford to be seen as weak by their people.
What this means is that an attack by Israel this year is almost certain. But much of Iran's response will be directed against US. Hezbollah and Hamas suicide bombers will strike inside civilian targets--schools, shopping malls, hospitals--inside the borders of the United States. Intelligence experts believe that dozens if not hundreds of these "sleeper agents" are already in place. When they attack, they will blame it on America's support of Israel.
Israel needs our help right now, and as we defend Israel we are defending our own nation as well. We must pray and speak out about this threat. And we must encourage others to join with us. Is this new threat from Iran serious? Absolutely. Am I terrified or downcast? Absolutely not. The God of Israel is the keeper and defender of the Chosen People. And He is our guard and safety as well. He defends His children--this is His promise that will never fail. I have found that promise true over and over again in my life.
It was true when Yasser Arafat screamed at me in front of an international conference, threatening to have me killed. It was true when I faced down Secretary of State James Baker in Madrid, crying out that God had promised the land of Israel to the Jewish people forever. It was true when I attended the UN "racism" conference and sat in front of delegates who hated everything connected with Israel.
In every one of these situations...and in dozens more just like them, I have clung to the promise of Almighty God:
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:5-12
This is God's promise to me. It is His promise to you...as His child...as His treasure...and as a friend of His Chosen People. The promise that God made to Abraham in Genesis 12:3 applies to you because your support of the Jerusalem Prayer Team is truly a blessing to the Jewish People.

This is a crucial moment in Israel's history. Her enemies gather like ravening wolves circling their prey. They constantly plot and work toward her destruction. Iran has provided Hezbollah and Hamas with thousands of missiles and rockets to use to attack Israel. They are nearing completion of their nuclear weapons program. The world community is either turning a blind eye to the threat or actively helping Iran acquire these weapons of mass destruction.
The work of the Jerusalem Prayer Team is so important right now because this is more than a political or military struggle--this is a spiritual battle. The Enemy wants control of Jerusalem because the Holy City is central to God's prophetic plan for the future of our world.
Satan's battle against God is centered on Jerusalem. Isaiah 14 records the plans of Satan: "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: (Jerusalem) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." Isaiah 14:13&14
Jerusalem is the only city God claims as His own. It is called the city of God and the Holy City in scriptures: "In the Temple and in Jerusalem which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel. I will put my Name forever". II Chronicles 37:7
