Fire Update

Howdy friends,

Last night the fires were calmer than expected and the lines remained basically unchanged. The temperatures are also lowering today, we may not get over 102 today, which by contrast is wonderful news for all of us, and especially for our weary heroes, the various emergency professionals and volunteers.

Unfortunately however there is some bad news. The first known death from the fires has occurred. Since the winds have calmed PG&E and others have been able to enter some of the burnt out area to restore some of the lights and phone. The remains of the person were found ina home in an evacuated area. If you are reading this and are in our area PLEASE go along with the evacuation orders! No one wants live in a shelter but PLEASE it can save you life and enable the fire fighters and others to more effectively deal with these still raging fires.

As for us... the "camp fire" fires have now "swept through" Yankee Hill, our area, but that's all w know as of now. I was told that that the nearby Hardware Store (a staging area a half mile from our house) is still secure but no one seems to know more than that. I THINK our house is still safe. Someone is supposed to come in later.

The mayor of Paradise was here this AM and said a few of the Paradise required evacuations would be changed to advisory around noon, no word on us.

They just came in and posted the new map... The fire is bigger that the fire break our house is relying on has not been breached. Our place is fine...

Here's a news update.

You continued prayers are requested,
~John of AllFaith

Butte Lightning Complex Updates

11:15 AM Update: The Butte County Sheriffs Office is confirming one person killed in the Camp Fire. The Sheriffs Office says human remains were discovered in an evacuation area after flames burned through the home. The Sheriffs Office issued the following statement:

We are saddened by the loss of one of our community members but hope that providing this information will encourage people in evacuation areas to heed the warnings so that they and their families would be safe.

It is important to keep in mind that evacuation orders are not made lightly and done in the interest of the safety of the people in the area being evacuated.

11:05 AM Update: A hard road closure is in effect for Pearson Road east of Edgewood and Kibler.

9:20 AM Update Friday: A convoy of more than 150 PG&E workers and heavy trucks are moving into the Concow area and the Feather River Canyon Friday to replace about 100 burned poles and restore power to more than 300 customers affected by recent fires. PG&E crews have been unable to reach several areas in need of repair until now. About 280 customers in Concow, Yankee Hill and Flea Mountain in Butte County lost power on Tuesday morning as fires swept through the region. About 30 PG&E customers in the Feather River Canyon in Plumas County, mostly utility and agencies, lost power June 26 due to the Camp Fire. Heavy smoke prevented helicopter flights and a burned bridge prevented road access until now.
Smoke still prevents some helicopter flights for surveying and pole replacement. Working closely with Cal Fire and other fire agencies on the front lines of fires to identify fire-threatened poles, PG&E has been treating wooden utility poles with fire retardant. More than 2,000 poles treated in the North Valley since the Ophir fire began in June. PG&E also applied fire retardant to Feather River Hospital in Paradise and some homes when fires approached. The result has been only a couple of hundred poles lost despite thousands of poles exposed to flames. Most lost poles were not treated as crews did not have access.
8:50 AM Update Friday: New evacuation information from the town of Paradise. There is an expansion of the immediate threat evacuation area. An immediate threat evacuation has been issued for all residents off of Pentz Rd. north of Bille to the upper Town limits including all side streets to the west. The immediate threat evacuation for residents from Wagstaff at Dolores; in between Kibler and Sawmill and Edgewood and Sawmill south to the town limits has been changed to a precautionary threat evacuation. However, residents in the precautionary evacuation zone should remain vigilant and be prepared to evacuate in the event fire conditions change.
8 AM Update Friday: New numbers released this morning on the Butte Lightning Complex. Cal-Fire says 48,800 acres have burned…the complex is 50% contained.
6:30 AM Update Friday: California’s Lieutenant Governor will be in Chico today to explain how the state will finance and provide resources for the on-going fire season. Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi will also deliver food and water to fire evacuees in Chico and Oroville. KPAY will have a live interview with the Lieutenant Governor at 8:20 this morning.
6:15 AM Update Friday: Fire crews are keeping close watch on wind conditions today as the Camp Fire continues to burn in Butte County. The weather forecast calls for possible canyon winds through 11 AM. Fire information officer Fred Orsborne tells KPAY that crews were working last night on the south end of the fire around Deadwood Road in the Jarbo Gap area. He says the Camp Fire has NOT crossed the Feather River Canyon into Paradise. He says all the evacuations advisories for parts of Paradise, Concow, Jarbo Gap, Yankee Hill, and Big Bend are still in effect today.
