Prophecy Fulfilled: Reunification of the Roman Empire: The EU

Welcome to Thus Say the Prophets!

Prophecy Fulfilled:
Reunification of the Roman Empire: The EU

By Ben Ruach ha Kodesh (John of AllFaith) 8.11.09

Daniel 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Several direct biblical prophecies have already been fulfilled, some in the distant past some in the recent past. This gives us faith that the remaining ones (and there are a great many) will come to pass as well. This entry is part of a series of studies on fulfilled prophecies. For my index linking all of these go HERE. They are also being posted on my main blog and can be accessed using the tag: prophecy fulfilled. This will be an ongoing project. I will add links to my Thus Say The Prophets and Noahide Nazarene homepages as the studies are written.

This study concerns one of the more obvious fulfilled prophecies although it has gotten surprisingly little attention from prophecy watchers lately.

The Prophet Daniel is one of the most important and informative of the biblical prophets. He was a Jewish captive living in the heart of the Babylonian Empire. Through a series of amazing events (Daniel in the lions den etc) the God of Israel placed him in key positions. Through Daniel God, the Giver of all true prophecy, laid out the future of the world. At times Daniel correctly interpreted the dreams and visions God placed into the consciousness of the rulers, at other times he issued direct prophecies himself. Most of Daniel saw is now coming into direct play in our time. Correctly understanding Daniel's prophecies is a necessity for anyone who would understand what God is doing in the world today.

That his relevance as a prophet outlived his time on earth is confirmed by Master Y'shua, who says in his most important prophecy:

Matt 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains...

The Master's reference to Daniel 9 (where we find "the abomination of desolation") is not the topic of this present study but note that it -- as well as the command for the Jews living in Jerusalem when it occurs to flee into wilderness -- is something yet to occur. Prophet Daniel's warnings are mainly for those people living in the End Times, our times. The Book of Revelation is in a real sense the conclusion of Daniel's prophecy.

Dan. 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

In chapters two and seven of his book (and elsewhere) Prophet Daniel tells us that four Super Powers will dominate the future history of the planet. Despite our egotism as a nation the United States is not one of them. Prior to World War Two the U.S. was not a Super Power. After World War Two it shared this role with China and the USSR. The U.S. is now being dominated by China and global bankers and is being systematically destroyed. The Euro has already surpassed the U.S. dollar as the world currency of choice. Now our total economic collapse appears imminent. To be clear on this: the prophets do not foretell the fall of the U.S. There is not a single passage in the entire Bible mentioning the U.S. despite the "scripture twisting" of some. Our country is simply irrelevant to the fulfillment of the prophecies (if it exists during the final seven years at all). As the U.S. continues to turn against Israel the reason for our fall is becoming ever clearer: Ichabod: The Glory of the Lord has departed. We as a nation chased it away!

Daniel reveals that the God of Israel rules in the affairs of the earth:

Daniel 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

God is in control always. However He chose to grant earthlings free will. We were free to create a global Paradise or a global Hell. Everything needed for either was placed in our hands. We have blown it and to save the Jews from annihilation HaShem will soon take charge:

Matt. 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Dan 7:17 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.

The Four Kingdoms:

The Babylonian Empire:

Following the fall of the Assyrian empire in 612 BCE the Babylon Empire arose and dominated. This was the power that conquered the Northern Kingdom of Israel and took the Jews, including Prophet Daniel, captive. From this event until 1948 CE Israel did not exist as a sovereign nation. Daniel explains how one day Israel would be (has now been) restored. This is Daniel's main focus and the central message of all biblical prophecy.

Daniel identifies Babylon as the first kingdom:

Dan 2:36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

And he adds from a vision:

Dan 7:4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

The latter portion of this is referencing the king's bout with insanity (Dan 4:31-37) whereby he was humbled and realized that all power comes from God.

We are focusing here on the EU so I am covering these four kingdom with little detail. For information on them see my study The Image of the Beast.

Medo-Persia:

God allows humans free will however He is also working out His own will (for our ultimate good) and protecting His people Israel. For this cause HaShem chose a man named Cyrus to replace the Babylon Empire -- conquering it in 539 B.C.E. -- for the purpose of returning the Jews to their home, Jerusalem. This kingdom reigned from 559-331 BCE.

There has been a lot of inaccurate interpretations written about Cyrus by those who do not understand that, "the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men." Cyrus was one such "base man." The God of Israel used him in the greater fulfillment of Israel's destiny. It is correct that Cyrus is referred to as "anointed" or moshiach. Lots of people are in the Bible including kings (II Sam 12:7) and priests (Lev 4:3) and indeed all Jews (Lev 7:36). The word moshiach must be understood in context. There have been a LOT of people anointed by God for some task. There will come the one who is THE Moshiach (Messiah) and he will establish the Kingdom of HaShem as the prophets foretell. But Cyrus was just a political figure God used for a certain task, nothing more.

Of this empire Daniel says:

Dan 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee...

And adds:

Dan7:5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

Cyrus and his "kingdom inferior to thee" is directly identified later by Daniel when he discusses the victory of Greece (the third power) over the Medo-Persians:

Dan 8:20: The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

Greece:

The prophet tells us:

Dan. 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee [again this was Medo-Persia], and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

Of Greece Daniel prophetically adds:

Dan 7:6 After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

Daniel discuses Greece more at 8:21:

And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.[i.e. Alexander the Great]

And again at 10:20:

Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come...

Under the reign of Alexander the Great Greece was like a great leopard that moved swiftly and decisively throughout the known world.

The Roman Empire

Daniel writes:

Dan 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise

Rome shattered everything that came before it and recreated the world in its own image. Its impact is present throughout the world even today.

The prophet adds:

Dan 7:7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

Like the Soviet Union Rome never fell, it crumbled under its own weight -- as Daniel foretold. The result was the fractured countries of Europa. These powers continued to rule. Their royal bloodlines intermarried and the same houses that ruled Rome continued their reign down to the present day.

The EU: The Restored Roman Empire

41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

The Roman Empire, the Fourth kingdom, remained the world ruler through it European rulers and the Roman Catholic Church. As it divided into the nations of Europa Europe took center stage in world affairs.

The Roman Empire continues to stand on its "ten toes." Here in chapter seven we read of the ten horns of the Beast. These "horns" or authorities represent the leadership of the divided kingdoms of Europe that Rome disintegrated into. Ten being the number of completion showing that although the Empire changed form nothing essential was lost.

In the Scriptures horns are often used in this way. For example:

Deuteronomy 33:17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

Prophecy Fulfilled

After so many years of in-fighting and competition (sometimes friendly sometimes not) the Roman Empire is now being restored as the European Union and Rome is being reunified as Daniel foretold.

The EU was established by the Treaty of Maastricht on 1 November 1993 upon the foundations of the pre-existing European Economic Community. With almost 500 million citizens, the EU combined generates an estimated 30% share (US$18.4 trillion in 2008) of the nominal gross world product (Source).

Prophecies Yet To Be Fulfilled

There exists one Great Prophecy: The establishment of God's kingdom on the earth. All other prophecies share the details of how this will be accomplished. The Reunification of the Roman Empire is a huge piece of the prophetic puzzle.

Once the EU is fully reunited into the Restored Roman Empire (by whatever name) the rest of this important prophecy will be fulfilled. The restored Roman Empire, more commonly referred to as the New World Order (Novus Ordo Mundi) and the New Order of the Ages (Novus Ordo Seclorum) will the stage upon which "the Little Horn" or Rex Mundi will take his stand.

Daniel continues:

Dan 7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

From among the horns: from among the states of the European Union, another powerful figure will arise: The Rex Mundi or Global Ruler known by many titles including "the Little Horn" from this verse. He is also known as the Man of Sin, the Son of Perdition and the Antichrist. Muslims call him as Masih ad-Dajjal (the imposture Messiah). Master Y'shua refers to him this way:

John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

The word if here, "if another come..." can also correctly be translated as "though ("ean") another comes." The word "shall" here in not in the Greek text making a valid alternative reading:

I am come in my Father's name, and am not received: though another will come in his own name and he will be received.

Of this soon coming European leader Prophet John tells us:

Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

As surely as the Roman Empire is now being restored as the EU

As surely as Prophet Daniel correctly foretold the four kingdoms that would dominate the stage of history

Just as certain is the soon rising of the Beast who will rule the world.

We have all been warned.

Prophecy fulfilled.
